One of the least-developed areas of the world, the Chin State in Western Myanmar (Burma), bordering Bangladesh and Eastern India, is filled with natural beauty, from stunning waterfalls to majestic mountains. This intense five-day itinerary will bring you through this lush wildlife and remote villages to the summit of Mount Victoria, the highest peak in the entire state, for a unique experience in one of the most isolated cultures in the world.
Highlights
- Enjoy four-wheel-drive jeep rides through the undeveloped, isolated Chin state of Myanmar
- Learn about the traditional tattoo customs of the Chin Tribe
- Visit the beautiful mountain town of Kanpetlet
- Reach the summit of Mount Victoria, the highest peak in the state, and enjoy the sweeping views and a picnic lunch on the trek down
Day 1 : Bagan – Kanpetlet ( L , D )
After breakfast, you’ll depart from the ancient city of Bagan and head south over the mighty Ayeyarwady River on a safari adventure. This seven-hour four-wheel-drive journey will bring you past vast plains and gentle hills, through the isolated villages of Ka Zun Ma and Nga Ga Bwe, and to the foot of Chin Hill, where the landscape becomes less dusty and more lush and green. Your final destination for the evening is the beautiful mountain village of Kanpetlet.
Day 2: Kanpetlet ( B, L, D )
After breakfast at your hotel, spend the day exploring the town of Kanpetlet, set on a mountain ridge between two deep valleys. You may visit a local house to learn about the tattoo tradition of the Chin Tribe: meet six women with different face tattoos and learn about the history, meaning, and process of this longstanding custom. Later, enjoy a traditional Chin-style dinner at your hotel.
Day 3: Kanpetlet – Aye village ( B, L, D )
After breakfast, you’ll embark on a jeep ride and then a trek to the summit of Mount Victoria, the highest peak in the Chin state, where you can take in incredible panoramic views. Enjoy a picnic lunch at a rest house after trekking down three hours to the base of the mountain, and then relax on the short 1-hour drive to Aye village – located 5,800 feet above sea level – for dinner and a night at a simple guesthouse.
Day 4 : Aye village – Mindat ( B , L , D )
Today, you’ll visit several local Chin villages to learn more about traditional tribal life. You will drive to Mashiyaw village and then trek to two small villages, Kyar Do and Lupet, where you can meet local people, learn more about their tattoo customs, and visit the village sites, including the sacrifice post and the traditional circle stone slab cemetery. Afterward, you’ll drive to the village of Mindat and stay overnight.
Day 5: Mindat – Bagan ( B, L )
After breakfast, you’ll head eight hours back to Bagan, stopping at a local restaurant for lunch. Enjoy a final night at the hotel in Bagan before departing in the morning to your next destination. End The Tour.
